Son Of Getaway Rises To The Occasion At Cheltenham
A step up in trip brought out the best in Jarveys Plate (6g Getaway - She’s Got To Go, by Glacial Storm), as he ran out a thoroughly impressive winner of the Listed Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham on New Years Day.
The Fergal O’Brien-trained chestnut was placed on his first two hurdle starts and relished the increase to two miles and four and a half furlongs on Tuesday. Ridden towards the back of the seven horse field by Paddy Brennan, he made good headway from three out and went clear at the next flight, staying on strongly all the while to extend his advantage to 13 lengths on the line. The market leader, I Can’t Explain (Getaway), finished second.
A delighted Fergal O’Brien said after the race, “He was impressive today and Paddy said there was loads of horse under him. We've always loved him and believed in him. He's quite straightforward and it was impressive against some nice horses. He looks a lovely chaser, a big stamp of a horse.”
Successful in his only bumper for O’Brien, Jarveys Plate began his career with Donal Hassett, for whom he was placed on both attempts between the flags. He was bred by Philip Brolan.
