Son Of Getaway Strikes Late To Win Dawstown Maiden

A patient ride by Johnny Barry saw Getaway Fred (5g Getaway - Cloch Anna, by King’s Theatre) win Monday’s Five-Year-Old Maiden at Dawstown on his second start.

The Pat Crowley owned and trained bay looked destined for third place on debut when falling at the final fence at Quakerstown last month. Held up at the back of the field of six, he made good progress from three out to challenge at the final fence, from which he strode clear to score by two lengths.

Bred by Tom Heaney, Getaway Fred is the first foal out of his dam, a half-sister to Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle second African Gold.
