Son Of Getaway Transfers Talent To Hurdles
The talented Sneaky Getaway (7g Getaway - Aguida, by Kahyasi) made a successful start to his hurdle career when running out an easy winner of Wednesday’s Maiden Hurdle at Roscommon.
The Emmet Mullins-trained bay won two bumpers last year, before adding two flat victories to his record, finishing the season with a respectable eighth in the Cesarewitch. Sent off favourite for his first attempt over two miles and five furlongs, he tracked the leader until leading from the fifth flight. Pushed clear approaching the last, he won by an easy six and a half lengths under Brian Hayes.
Mullins was impressed by his charge and later commented, “It was a great first effort and was good to get him off the mark. He has been a great horse for the owners, that is his fifth win and that was a great start to the year.” On future plans, he added, “We can look towards Galway now, he is a high class staying horse on the flat and does want a trip over hurdles too. I think there is a 2m4f novice in Galway and hopefully we can be competitive again.
Owned by Mrs Margaret O’Rourke and E Hogan, Sneaky Getaway was bred by MW and Mrs M Doran. The son of Grange Stud sire Getaway is the best performer out of Aguida, a half-sister to Grade 2 victor Astonville.
