No Ordinary Joe (Getaway) Wins The Bumper At Sandown

Son Of Getaway Wins Smart Bumper On Debut

No Ordinary Joe (4g Getaway - Shadow Dearg, by Beneficial) led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore NH sires in a competitive bumper at Sandown on Sunday.

The Nicky Henderson-trained newcomer had obviously shown great promise at home and was sent off favourite under stable jockey Nico de Boinville. Racing in midfield, the bay made smooth headway from three furlongs out and was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong. Keeping on well, he scored by three and a half lengths in comfortable fashion, as Flemenstide (Flemensfirth) finished second and Highstakesplayer (Ocovango) claimed third.

Owned by JP McManus, No Ordinary Joe was bred by Sean Reilly out of a full-sister to four black-type horses, including Grade 2 winner Corskeagh Royale.

Earlier in the week, Irish point-to-point winner Bareback Jack (4g Getaway - Dubh Go Leir, by Definite Article) made a winning start for the Donald McCain stable when taking a Novices’ Hurdle at Musselburgh.

The son of Getaway won his debut by 15 lengths in a four-year-old maiden at Punchestown in February and now carried the colours of TG Leslie. Brian Hughes rode him to chase the leaders, improving from three out and produced a challenge at the second last. Soon in front, he kept on well to win by two and a half lengths.

Bareback Jack was bred by Raymond O’Driscoll and hails from the family of Mighty Mogul.
