Son Of Kingston Hill Delivers On Debut Promise
Kommodity Kid (3g Kingston Hill – Sweetly Does It, by Shirocco) became the latest first crop winner by Kingston Hill when scoring over ten furlongs at Lingfield.
The Jonathan Portman-trained bay finished a close second over course and distance in January, but was badly hampered on his next start in February. Wednesday saw him track the leaders under PJ McDonald, who asked him to quicken from over two furlongs out and his mount obliged to lead inside the final 110 yards. Running on well, he won by a neck from the even-money favourite Sly Minx.
Owned by Laurence Bellman, Kommodity Kid was bred by Martin Keating out of a half-sister to two Stakes performers on the flat and Grade 3 placed hurdler Miss Fancy Pants.
Kingston Hill’s progeny proved popular at the 2019 national hunt sales, where 12 colt foals sold for up to €72,000 and averaged over €21,000. Buyers included Mount Eaton Stud, Patrick McCann, Highflyer Bloodstock, Ian Ferguson, Bryan Murphy and Yellowford Farm.
The dual Group 1 winner commands €5,000 at Castlehyde Stud.
