Shanagh Bob (Mahler) Wins The Grade 2 Novices Hurdle At Cheltenham

Son Of Mahler Adds Grade 2 To Unbeaten Record

Shanagh Bob (5g Mahler - Exit Bob, by Exit To Nowhere) entered the Albert Bartlett picture when extending his unbeaten record in Saturday’s Grade 2 Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham.

The son of Mahler sold for £200,000 following his debut win at Ballindenisk for John O’Donovan and went on to win impressively on his first start for Nicky Henderson last month. He was sent off favourite to remain unbeaten under Nico de Boinville and raced in midfield in the early stages of the three mile contest. Making headway from after halfway, he chased the leaders after the third last and was ridden to lead on the run-in. Staying on well, he led by a length and a quarter on the line

Speaking after the race, Nicky Henderson said, “This is the road to the Albert Bartlett, but there is a long way to go before that. I thought this was a crazy step, but it has worked, and Shanagh Bob will now have to stay in this company from here on in. If he can make the Albert Bartlett that would be lovely.”

Shanagh Bob was introduced to the Albert Bartlett market at a price of 16/1. The exciting son of Mahler is owned by Mrs Donnelly and was bred by Aaron Doocey.
