Son Of Mahler Battles For Maiden Hurdle Win
Oneupmanship (6g Mahler - Letthisbetheone, by Moscow Society) displayed a winning attitude when deservedly getting off the mark in Thursday’s maiden hurdle at Ffos Las.
Placed in two bumpers and another three times over hurdles, the Jack Barber-trained chesnut was sent off favourite as he stepped up to two miles and six furlongs. He made all under Nick Schofield, quickening from four out and was pushed along approaching the penultimate flight. Joined at the last by Barely Famous (Fame And Glory), he rallied on the run-in to score by a length on the line.
There is more to come from Oneupmanship over fences, according to his trainer, who later commented, “He's a big horse and should make a nice chaser. He'll benefit from another summer on his back and will grow and strengthen up.”
Owned by Charlie Walker and Phil Fry, the son of Mahler was bred by Capel Bloodstock and is a full-brother to chase winner Home Place (Mahler).
