Son Of Mahler Cashes In Over Hurdles
The Gordon Elliott-trained Cats For Cash (5g Mahler - Harvard Girl, by Westerner) made all to justify strong market support in Monday’s maiden hurdle at Downpatrick.
Placed in two bumpers and on three occassions over hurdles, the grey was sent off joint-favourite as he stepped back up in trip to two miles and three furlongs. Leading under jack Kennedy, he was travelling well with two flights left to jump and was ridden out from the last to score by four lengths.
Elliott, who trains the winner for Liam Clancy, commented after the race, “Cats For Cash had all the conditions in his favour today. He has promised more than what he has shown. I'd say he'll go chasing and anything else he does now is a bonus.”
A €32,000 store purchase by his trainer and agent Aidan O’Ryan, Cats For Cash was bred by Hugh McDaid out of a Westerner half-sister to top-class hurdler Harchibald.
