Son Of Mahler Draws Clear To Maiden Hurdle Success
Ballybegg (6g Mahler - Rebel Flyer, by Presenting) produced an impressive performance to run out an easy winner of Monday’s maiden hurdle at Hereford.
The Kerry Lee-trained bay made a promising hurdle debut last month when chasing home the exciting Minella Drama (Flemensfirth) and stepped up to two miles and three and a half furlongs on his next attempt. Richard Patrick rode him to lead, and though briefly headed, went clear from two out, running on to score by 18 lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “That was very impressive. It's real testing ground and I couldn't believe how clear he'd gone and how easily he'd put the race to bed in a few strides. I'd say he'll get better over a fence so there's a lot to look forward to.”
Lee purchased Ballybegg after finishing third on his sole start in a bumper, having previously been placed in a point-to-point. The son of Mahler was bred by Patrick Hennessy out of a half-sister to the dam of Grade 3 winner Go Another One.
