Son Of Mahler Gains Maiden Hurdle Win
Mahler’s Promise (4g Mahler - Loadsapromise, by Brian Boru) showed the benefit of experience when winning Wednesday’s maiden hurdle at Newbury.
The Seamus Mullins-trained bay was making his second start over hurdles, having won a bumper on debut in June. Kevin Jones rode him in mid-division, improving to track the leaders three from home and produced a challenge at the second last. Leading at the final flight, he kept on well to win by four lengths.
After the race, assistant trainer James Mullins said, “Mahler’s Promise is a lovely horse. As a bumper horse he won quite nicely and we do hold him in a level of regard, but we don't know how good he is.”
Mahler’s Promise was bred by Robert McCarthy of the Beeches Stud, where Mahler stands. His three-year-old half-brother by Flemensfirth sold to Doyle and Tizzard for £60,000 at the Goffs UK Store Sale in May.
