Son Of Mahler Goes One Better Over Hurdles
Point-to-point winner Carrolls Cottage (4g Mahler - Strokestown Queen, by Presenting) built on a promising hurdle debut to justify favoritism in Tuesday’s maiden hurdle at Limerick.
Successful in a four-year-old maiden at Dromahane in October, the Philip Fenton-trained bay finished second on his first start over hurdles last month. He stepped up to two miles and three furlongs on his latest start, with heavy ground adding to the test on his stamina.
Brian Hayes rode him in a prominent position, asserting at the second last and pushed his mount along approaching the final flight, from which he ran on to score by seven lengths.
Owned by Mike Neville and bred by Martin McDermott, Carrolls Cottage is one of three winners by Mahler out of the mare Strokestown Queen.
