Son Of Mahler Has A Bright Future Ahead
Hot favourite Tight Call (5g Mahler - Victory Anthem, by Royal Anthem) made all to run out an impressive winner of the Novices’ Hurdle at Fontwell on Wednesday.
An impressive winner of a bumper and his hurdle debut earlier in the season, he was dropping back in trip to two miles and two furlongs, having since been placed over further. Also returning to front-running tactics under Alan Johns, the Tim Vaughan-trained chesnut was clear on the turn for home and was pushed out to maintain an eight length advantage on the line.
Alan Johns later said of the winner, “He is a lovely horse and it is just nice to get another win with him. We hope he can have quite a nice future, he is off a nice mark and he has some really good form from handicaps earlier in the season. We think he can be one to run well in those big Saturday handicaps next winter.”
Bought by connections after finishing third in a Galway bumper for Roger McGrath, Tight Call was bred by Patrick McCarthy out of a half-sister to the Listed-placed Garri Rua (Milan).
