Son Of Mahler Impresses De Boinville At Chepstow

Nico de Boinville described Firestep (5g Mahler - Springinherstep, by Saddlers’ Hall) as “a really nice prospect” after partnering the bay to make it two from two on Sunday.

Nicky Henderson’s charge made a winning debut in November and was sent off favourite under a penalty in the bumper at Chepstow. Tracking the leaders for much of the way, he led from three furlongs out and was ridden approaching the final furlong to win by a length, comfortably.

Speaking after the race, de Boinville said, “Firestep is a really nice prospect who is progressing every time he runs. He was still a bit green there as there was nothing to take him through, but he strode on nicely to the line and is exciting going novice hurdling next season.”

Owned by Charles Dingwall and The Infamous Five, Firestep was bred by Denis Noonan out of Springinherstep, who Henderson trained to win three times. So taken was Henderson by the son of Mahler, that he bought his half-sister by Leading Light last year.
