Son Of Mahler Impresses On Hurdle Debut
Peter Scudamore described Cadell (5g Mahler - Prettyasapicture, by King’s Theatre) as “an exciting prospect” after his smart start over hurdles at Kelso on Sunday.
The son of Mahler won both his starts in point-to-points for Ronnie Bartlett before joining the Lucinda Russel stable and finished second in an Aintree bumper on rules debut in May. He was well-supported in the market ahead of the Novices’ Hurdle and raced in touch for much of the two mile and five furlong contest. Pushed along by Derek Fox after the second last, he led before the final flight and ran on well under hands and heels to score by three lengths and three quarters.
Cadell was sold by Killeen Glebe to Ian Ferguson at the Goffs Land Rover Sale for €90,000. The son of Mahler is the first winner bred by Mrs Gabrielle Whitty out of Prettyasapicture, who has a two-year-old filly by Capri and yearling colt by Vadamos.
