Son Of Mahler Lands Troytown Chase For In-Form Power
Chris’s Dream (7g Mahler - Janebailey, by Silver Patriarch) continued Robbie Power’s dream run when justifying favoritism in the Troytown Chase, Sunday’s feature at Navan.
The Henry de Bromhead-trained bay was sent off favourite despite carrying top weight for the valuable three mile chase, the market siding with the previous Grade 2 chase winner who was last seen in April. Ridden in mid-division, he took closer order from five out and was travelling well at the third last, when producing a challenge. Leading from the next, he stayed on well to win by nine and a half lengths from Fitzhenry (Flemensfirth).
De Bromhead, who trains the winner for Brian Acheson’s Robcour Ltd, afterwards mentioned the Thyestes Chase as a possible target, adding, “Brian suggested this race and it made a lot of sense. Robbie was brilliant on him and he’s a very good horse.” Man-of-the-moment Robbie Power was thrilled with his mount’s performance, commenting, “He loves Navan and Henry had him spot on for this. He travelled and jumped super and it couldn't have went any better the whole way.”
Bred by Mrs Mary O’Connor, Chris’s Dream was purchased by connections for £175,000 from Eugene O’Sullivan, for whom the son of Mahler won a maiden hurdle and Four-Year-Old Maiden at Boulta. He is a half-brother to top US hurdler Scorpiancer and provides a nice update for his Soldier Of Fortune two-year-old half-sister, whom O’Sullivan bought last January.
