Son Of Mahler Races Clear In Beginners Chase
The Philip Hobbs-trained Deise Aba (7g Mahler - Kit Massini, by Dr Massini) gained his first win over fences in the Beginners’ Chase at Catterick on Wednesday.
Fourth on his last start in November, he was sent off favourite for the three mile and one furlong contest under champion jockey Richard Johnson. Making all, he was pushed along from the second last and went clear approaching the final fence. The winning margin measured 16 lengths.
The Trevor Hemmings-owned bay learnt his trade with Kieran Purcell, for whom he won his sole start at Dromahane, before making a winning start for current connections over hurdles. Bred by Ms Margaret Leahy, he is out of a half-sister to impressive point-to-point winner Dancingatdunraven (Mahler).
