Son Of Mahler Remains Unbeaten Under Rules

Grove Road (6g Mahler - Dear Frankie, by Milan) made it two from two under rules with a winning hurdle debut at Carlisle on Sunday.

A promising third on his sole start between the flags for Aidan Kennedy, the son of Mahler made a successful start for Archie Watson and Hambleton Racing in a bumper last season. Partnered by Adam Wedge once again on return, he raced prominently throughout the novices’ hurdle over two and a half miles and led from the fourth last. Ridden approaching the final flight, he kept on well to beat the favourite by a length and a half, with another 11 lengths back to the third.

Adam Wedge was delighted with the winner’s performance and said, “I thought after his bumper win at Sedgefield that this place would suit him more and he's proved that. He's two out of two under rules and he gave me a lovely feel.”

Grove Road is the first foal bred by Gareth Adair out of a full-sister to Grade 2 scorer Lambro (Milan).

Law Of Supply (4g Mahler - Nina Fontenail) completed a double for Mahler just ten minutes later, when landing the five-year-old geldings maiden at Tattersalls for Mick Murphy.

Fourth on both his previous starts, he was positioned in midfield by Darragh Higgins and took closer order from five out. Producing a strong challenge in the straight, he disputed on the run-in and kept on well to score by three parts of a length. Promising newcomer Bob Cigar (Westerner) took second.

A return to the sales ring is now on the agenda for the son of Mahler, who was bred by Thistletown Stud.
