Son Of Mahler Wins On Debut For McConnell
Cabin Hill (6g Mahler - Bacherole, by Bach) made his racecourse debut a winning one, when taking the two mile bumper at Wexford on Wednesday.
Trained by John McConnell for the Rockview Racing Club, he was positioned in mid-division by Tom Reilly and took closer order from four furlongs out. Ridden from the two furlong marker, he stayed on well to take second inside the final furlong and led close home, beating the favourite Robaddan (Flemensfirth) by a length.
The winning jockey commented after the race, “He had done a few nice bits at home with some of John's good horses so we kind of knew where we were going. He's one maybe that could win a winners' bumper as well, I think there's still a lot of improvement in him.”
Cabin Hill was bred by Dolores and John Carroll and is the first foal out of the mare, a half-sister to Will Jamie Run, who McConnell also trained to win on five occasions.
