Son Of Maxios Adds Triumph Hurdle To Unbeaten Record
Quilixios (4g Maxios - Quilita, by Lomitas) extended his unbeaten record and recorded his second consecutive Grade 1 success when landing the JCB Triumph Hurdle on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival.
The Cheveley Park Stud-owned bay was sent off second favourite to former stablemate Zanahiyr after last month’s victory in the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown, but was travelling strongly as he led the field into the straight. Ridden out to the final flight, he stayed on strongly under Rachael Blackmore to win by three and a quarter lengths from Grade 1 winner Adagio.
Blackmore described the winner as “a smashing horse” after the race, while winning trainer Henry de Bromhead said, “He's just a lovely horse to do anything with. He's a gorgeous-looking horse with loads of size and scope. He'll be a lovely chaser in time.”
Bred by Gestut Fahrhof, Quilixios becomes a second Cheltenham Festival winner by Maxios, with Aramax (Maxios) having won last year’s running of the Grade 3 Fred Winter Hurdle. The dual Group 1 winning son of Monsun has been well supported since moving to Castlehyde Stud last year and stands for a fee of €7,000 in 2021.
