Son Of Maxios Defies Inexperience To Win Maiden Hurdle
Coup De Gold (3g Maxios - Astroglia, by Montjeu) appears to have found his calling over hurdles, after making a winning debut in the national hunt sphere on Saturday.
Placed on the flat as a juvenile, the David Thompson-trained gelding faced more experienced rivals in the two and a half mile Maiden Hurdle at Catterick. Aaron Anderson held him up at the back of the field, improving his position to chase the leader from two out and produced a challenge approaching the final flight. Driven out, he led close home to beat Quart De Garde by a neck, the pair finishing 10 lengths clear of the field.
The promising winner is owned by N Park and was bred by the Niarchos family. A €155,000 yearling, the son of Maxios is out of a half-sister to the dam of Grade 1 winner Emollient.
