Son Of Maxios Sets Triumph Hurdle In Sights
A glittering dual-purpose career awaits Tax For Max (3c Maxios - Tomato Finish, by Starborough) after Volker Kaufling’s talented homebred sold to David Powell for €200,000 at the Arqana Autumn Sale.
Powell provided the joint session-topping bid on behalf of owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, who are sending the 102-rated bay to Willie Mullins. On future plans for Tax For Max, Powell commented, “He'll be prepared for the Triumph Hurdle and then could run on the Flat in long-distance races later.”
Trained by Henk Grewe, the three-year-old was last seen finishing fifth to stablemate Sunny Queen (Camelot) in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Bayern.
Castlehyde Stud recruit Maxios enjoyed success on the track that same afternoon when the Alan King-trained Isolate (4g Maxios - Unaided, by Dansili) raced clear to win the Novices’ Hurdle at Leicester.
Successful in a similar contest last month, he was sent off favourite to follow up under Tom Cannon and raced prominently throughout. Asserting with ease approaching the second last, he was shaken up to go clear on the run-in and scored by seven lengths with minimum fuss.
Owned by Noel Fehily Racing, Isolate was bred by SARL de Chambure.
