Son Of Walk In The Park Doubles Up For Monbeg
Monbeg Park (5g Walk In The Park - Cyclone’s Sister, by Stowaway) recorded his second success for Sean Doyle in Monday’s point-to-point flat race at Cork.
The well-bred bay emerged as a smart prospect when making a winning debut in a four-year-old maiden in November and finished second on return last month. Held up by Jack Hendrick on Monday, he improved to challenge three furlongs from home and led a furlong late. He showed signs of inexperience when pushed along approaching the final furlong, but went clear to score by three lengths.
Speaking after the race, Doyle said, “He wasn't fully right in Gowran but came out of it well and looks a different horse now. We will keep him for racing ourselves now and if he stays in one piece, you could see him winning something big.” Explaining why they still own the winner, he said, “It is only by accident we have him as he did a suspensory joint winning his point to point. Other than that he would have gone to the sales and made a lot of money.”
Bought by Monbeg Stables for €65,000, the son of Walk In The Park was bred by Grange Stud out of an own-sister to Hidden Cyclone.
