Stamina Test Brings Out Best In Son Of Getaway
A strong test of stamina saw Talkischeap (7g Getaway - Carrigmoorna Oak, by Milan) produce a career-best performance to win Saturday’s Grade 3 bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Sandown.
Previously twice successful over three miles, Alan King’s charge had another five furlongs to contend with on his latest start, though had regular rider Wayne Hutchinson to guide him. Travelling well amidst his elders throughout, he improved into second at the third last and swept into the lead at the final fence. Powering clear, he scored by 10 lengths, with the field well strung out behind him.
Alan King later commented, “We had no doubts about his stamina on this ground and he was always in his comfort zone. He never missed a beat today.” Owned by Charles Dingwall, Talkischeap learnt his trade with Sean Doyle, for whom he won on three occassions. Bred by Michael Veale, he comes from the family of high-class hurdler Cockney Lad.
