Super Saturday For Mahler With Three Impressive Newcomers
American Mike (4g Mahler - American Jennie, by Lord Americo) emerged as an exciting prospect on Saturday, when running out a 20 length winner of the four-year-old maiden at Cork.
The Sean Doyle-trained newcomer led from two out under Jamie Scallan and soon went clear, leaving his rivals to fight out the placings. Bred by Louis Murray and Colm Moran, the son of Mahler becomes the second winner out of talented chaser American Jennie.
Harvie Wallbanger (5g Mahler- Initforthecrack, by Morozov) completed a double on the card for his Beeches Stud sire when making a winning debut in the five-year-old maiden.
Leading from the second last, the bay stayed on well under Chris O’Donovan to win by 15 lengths. Trained by Mattie Collins for Patrick Collins, Harvie Wallbanger was bred by Mr M Hogan and hails from the family of Cue Card.
Atjima (6m Mahler - Qui Plus Est, by Dark Moondancer) became Mahler’s third impressive newcomer on the day when winning the bumper at Chepstow by all of 25 lengths.
The sole mare in the field, Victor Dartnall’s charge was well-supported in the market and was ridden to track the leaders under David Prichard. Leading approaching the three furlong marker, she soon went clear and success never looked in doubt.
Owned by Nick Viney and bred by John Edwards, Atjima is a full-sister to stablemate Haldon Hill, who also won a bumper.
