Talented Mares Complete Punchestown Double For Getaway
Glan (5m Getaway - Fleur, by Perugino) dug deep to a defy a penalty in Wednesday’s bumper at Punchestown; completing a double on the card for Grange Stud sire Getaway.
Successful on her seasonal return last month, the Gordon Elliott-trained chesnut was sent off favourite of a field of 14 on her latest start. Jamie Codd rode her in midfield, improving to chase the leaders from four furlongs out and eased into the lead two furlongs later. Pushed clear, she ran on well to deny Powerful Out by a neck, with the first two drawing 16 lengths clear of the field.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “I thought that was a good performance. She was giving a stone to the second and was 16 lengths clear of the third. We might keep her for a Listed mares' bumper at Gowran Park if the ground stays okay.”
Owned by Mrs Ann Marie McManus, Glan was bred by Kieran McManus out of German Listed winner Fleur.
The Willie Mullins-trained Getaway Gorgeous (6m Getaway - Impudent, by In The Wings) was another short-priced favourite on the card, having won or been placed on all eight of her previous starts.
One of nine to line up for the Mares Novices Hurdle, she chased the leaders under David Mullins and was travelling well when asserting at the second last. Clear approaching the final flight, she was pushed out to score by six lengths.
Listed-placed in a bumper and over hurdles, Getaway Gorgeous may next seek further black-type for breeder Joe Rogers. The daughter of Getaway is closely related to dual Grade 3 winner Rock The Kasbah.
