Talented Son Of Getaway Proves A Cut Above

Sunday saw Graded performer Feronily (6g Getaway - Vickeeto, by Old Vic) gain a deserved win under rules in the maiden hurdle at Limerick.

The son of Getaway drew ten lengths clear on his sole start for Ellmarie Holden and subsequently joined the Emmet Mullins yard, for whom he has since placed in a Grade 2 bumper and finished a fine fourth in a Grade 2 on his hurdle bow.

Sent off favourite at the weekend, he disputed the lead under Donagh Meyler and led from two out when travelling best of the field. Pushed clear on the run-in, he won by six and half lengths with ease.

“We'll find a novice hurdle at Punchestown next,” the winning trainer later revealed. “Next year should be a nice year to look forward to as he has a lot of potential and he will probably go over fences next season.”

Feronily is owned by Paul Byrne and was bred by Thomas O’Brien.

Later that afternoon at Loughrea, the Sean Doyle-trained Annie Express (5m Getaway - Lisdaleen, by Saddlers’ Hall) completed a double for her sire when taking the mares’ maiden under Brian Lawless.

The Jim O’Neill-owned mare made all of the running and began to extend her advantage from the second last, going on to win by a comfortable seven lengths. The progressive bay was bred by Stephen Campion.
