Talented Son Of Maxios Makes Winning Chase Debut

Useful hurdler Ecco (7g Maxios - Enjoy The Life, by Medicean) made a winning start over fences when landing the Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter on Saturday.

The Paul Nicholls-trained bay was well-supported for the Class 3 contest and tracked the leaders for much of the way under Harry Cobden. Leading from the third last, he was ridden out on the run-in to deny a challenger by a neck on the line, with the pair rallying over eight lengths clear of the field.

Ecco added to a bumper success and three hurdle wins for owner Colm Donlon, while he also won impressively on the flat in his native Germany for Peter Schiergen and Stall Hornoldendorf.

Bred by Gestut Fahrhof, he hails from the first crop of Maxios, who joined the Castlehyde Stud roster in 2020.
