The Big Breakaway Leads Fabulous Four-Timer For Getaway

Grange Stud resident Getaway sired an impressive four-timer on Wednesday, with The Big Breakaway (4g Getaway - Princess Mairead, by Blueprint) perhaps the most impressive of all in the Maiden Hurdle at Chepstow.

A ten length winner on debut in a Four-Year-Old Maiden at Quakerstown, he was subsequently sold by Donnchadh Doyle for €360,000 to Peter and Ross Doyle and Colin Tizzard. That promise saw him sent off favourite under Robbie Power, who guided him to an eight length success in comfortable fashion.

Assistant trainer Joe Tizzard was thrilled by the winner’s performance and later commented, “The Big Breakaway has excited us all the way through and has gone about that like a really nice horse, but we've got to remind ourselves he's only four. He's one of our nicest young horses and looks like he has a massive future - he's exciting, really exciting.”

Bred by William Mangan, The Big Breakaway cost €55,000 as a three-year-old, while his exploits saw his full-sister sell to Mags O’Toole for €125,000 at this year’s Derby Sale.

Getaway Fred (5g Getaway - Cloch Anna, by King’s Theatre) took the two mile novice hurdle earlier on the card to kick off a treble for Tizzard and Power. He, too, won a point-to-point maiden earlier this year and showed promise on his stable debut last month when he finished second. He led from start to finish and kept on well to justify favoritism by three lengths.

Joe Tizzard later described Getaway Fred as “a nice horse who is going the right way.” Owned by Victor and Celia Goaman, he is the first foal bred by T Heaney out of the mare, a full-sister to Grade 1 performer African Gold.

Meanwhile at Warwick, Winter Getaway (6m Getaway - Galzig, by King’s Theatre) made it two from two over hurdles when taking the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle over two miles and five furlongs.

Carrying a penalty, she made smooth headway from five out and led at the second last, racing clear to win by three and a half lengths under champion jockey Richard Johnson. Trained by Philip Hobbs for The Kingpins, she also learnt her trade between the flags, winning twice for Michael Winters and breeder Edmond Cogan. Her half-sister by Mahler finished second on debut in a Dromahane maiden earlier this month and was later sold for £50,000 to John McConnell.

Getaway Queen (5m Getaway - Queen Of Dubai, by Dubai Destination) completed the four-timer when making a successful return step up in trip at Dundalk that evening. The David Kenneth Budds-trained mare was narrowly beaten last time out at the track and stayed on well to win by two lengths and a quarter. Owned by Mark Landers, Getaway Queen was bred by Mr C Reaney and comes from the family of Group 1 winner Germany.
