Tintangle looks star bumper mare for Yeats
Tintangle (5m Yeats-Connaught Hall, by Un Desperado), who finished behind subsequent G1 Cheltenham Bumper winner Relegate (5m Flemensfirth-Last Of The Bunch, by Silver Patriarch) on her only previous run, looks to be a high-class performer in her own right.
Trained by Gordon Elliott for Gigginstown House Stud, the Yeats mare scored by five and a half lengths in eye-catching style at Down Royal on Monday.
"She's a nice mare, she's a mare for next year.” said Elliott. “She's a fine big mare and she'll come on a lot from that. She'll be a big chaser.”
Tintangle, a €52,000 Goffs Land Rover store bred by Kevin O’Brien, also impressed Racing Post analyst Tyrone Molloy.
He wrote: “A decent mares' bumper in all likelihood with some promising types in opposition. The winner has a bit of class.
“TINTANGLE was thrown in at the deep end on her debut, in the inaugural Grade 2 Mares' bumper at Leopardstown last month, and performed admirably behind the subsequent Cheltenham Champion Bumper winner Relegate. She pulled very hard in the early stages but still had enough in the locker to go away from them in the closing stages, so this performance can be rated a fair bit higher; she must have a big engine to go with her big frame. A rematch with Relegate at Punchestown would be interesting.”
