Unbeaten Hurdler Leads Sunday Treble For Getaway
Bareback Jack (5g Getaway - Dubh Go Leir, by Definite Article) added to a terrific weekend for Grange Stud sire Getaway when extending his unbeaten record in the Scottish Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Musselburgh.
An impressive winner of his point-to-point, he made a winning debut over Sunday’s course and distance in November and followed up with a nine length win last month. Donald McCain’s charge was sent off second favourite under Brian Hughes, who rode the bay to make all and asked him to quicken from three out. Facing a strong challenge from the favourite at the second last, he was ridden approaching the final flight and ran on well on the run-in to win by two and a quarter lengths.
A step up in class at the Cheltenham Festival may now be on the cards for the T G Leslie-owned winner, who was bred by Raymond O’Driscoll.
Getaway enjoyed a perfect start to the card when Fire Away (8g Getaway - Joan’s Girl, by Supreme Leader) ran out an easy winner of the Novices’ Handicap Chase over two and a half miles.
Last seen in September, the Laura Morgan-trained bay was sent off favourite on his second start over fences and was ridden to track the leaders by Richie McLernon. Asserting with easy at the fourth last fence, he soon went clear and scored by 19 lengths, unchallenged.
Bred by Brian Moran, Fire Away previously won a bumper in Ireland.
Get The Appeal (7m Getaway - Lady Appeal, by Phardante) completed a treble on the card for Getaway when carrying top weight to success in the finale. Trained by Paul Nicholls for Middleham Park Racing, the half-sister to Grade 2 winner Fox Appeal was bred by Sean and Batt Leahy.
