Unbeaten Augusta Kate shines for Yeats
Outstanding filly Augusta Kate (4f Yeats-Feathard Lady, by Accordion) saw off a high-class field with ease to win the Listed Coolmore NH Sires European Breeders Fund Mares Bumper at Navan on Sunday.
A facile winner on her debut at Listowel, Augusta Kate saw off 14 rivals to win by seven lengths for trainer Willie Mullins and his son Patrick. Out of G1 winner Feathard Lady, Augusta Kate is owned by breeders Andrea and Graham Wylie by a partnership including TV stars Ant and Dec, golfer Lee Westwood and retired football star Alan Shearer.
“She's an extraordinary mare to do what she did against a really good field. I thought it was a very good race on paper. She shows very little at home but comes alive on the racetrack,” said the winning trainer.
"She's only a four-year-old and we may give her a break and come back for Aintree and Punchestown. Looking at her pedigree, I would rather go hurdling than stay on the Flat and, if she takes after her mother, she could be a nice novice next year."
