Unbeaten Son Of Mahler Impresses In Listed Bumper
American Mike (4g Mahler - American Jennie, by Lord Americo) could hardly have been more impressive when extending his unbeaten record in the Listed Future Champions Bumper at Navan on Saturday.
Purchased for £195,000 after winning his point-to-point by all of 20 lengths for Sean Doyle, the son of Mahler made a smart start for Gordon Elliott and Bective Stud in a Down Royal bumper. Reunited with Jamie Codd at the weekend, the bay travelled strongly throughout and led from two furlongs out. Soon clear, he scored by 17 lengths from a strung out field.
Speaking after the race, the in-form Elliott said, “American Mike did what we expected. He could go to the Dublin Racing Festival but I would say he will go straight to Cheltenham. I think he's a proper horse. Jamie said it was a proper race and they went a proper gallop.”
Bred by Louis Murray and Colm Moran, American Mike is the most talented performer to date out of dual black-type winner American Jennie.
