Walk In The Park Mare Leaps To First Chase Success
Jenny Flex (6m Walk In The Park - Dark Mimosa, by Bahri) produced a fine round of jumping to win Friday’s Beginners Chase at Downpatrick.
The Gordon Elliott-trained mare had finished second on both her previous starts over fences and was reunited with Jack Kennedy for the two mile and three furlong chase. Racing prominently for much of the way, she was travelling best of the field at the second last and soon boasted a clear advantage. Stablemate Zettabyte (Soldier of Fortune) narrowed the gap close home, by Jenny Flex was always doing enough and led by a length and three quarters on the line.
“She did it well,” said Kennedy after the race. “The switch to fences has really brought out improvement in her. She has lost nothing in defeat the last twice and it was nice for her to get her head in front today. She enjoyed striding along there in front and jumped great.”
Jenny Flex was previously trained by Colin Bowe, for whom she won her point-to-point impressively as a four-year-old. Bred by Eddie O’Donoghue, the €75,000 store sale purchase is owned by Robcour.
