Well Bred Mahler Mare Delivers On Hurdle Debut

The Nicky Henderson-trained Fishcake (5m Mahler - Martovic, by Old Vic) made a bright start to her hurdling career in Monday’s Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Plumpton.

Racing prominently throughout, the daughter of Mahler asserted from four out and despite showing signs of inexperience, went clear approaching the second last. Ridden out on the run-in, she scored by four and a half lengths, with the same margin between the second and third.

Owned by the FB Racing Club, Fishcake was bred by Cyril O’Hara and is a half-sister to the high-class Monkfish.
