Well Bred Walk In The Park Mare Wins Listed Bumper
Jetara (4f Walk In The Park - Jelan, by Milan) justified strong market support to gain her first black-type success in the Listed Coolmore NH Sires In Swoop Irish EBF Mares’ Bumper at Navan.
Gerard McGrath’s homebred made a winning debut in April and was last seen finishing second in a Listed contest at Gowran Park. The Jessica Harrington-trained bay was ridden prominently on Sunday by Tom Hamilton, who asked his mount to quicken from three furlongs out. Leading from over a furlong out, she soon boasted a clear advantage was kept on well to win by a length and a quarter.
“It’s some family and you can’t beat breeding!” Harrington commented after the race. “She’s tough and we kind of got it wrong in Gowran, where she stayed on really well and we didn’t make enough use of her. I was worried about the ground as most of the family like good ground but she’s by Walk In The Park and she seems to cope very well with it.”
Jetara is the first foal out of Jelan (Milan), a bumper winner for the same connections, but best-known as a full-sister to their multiple Grade 1 winner Jezki (Milan).
