Pair Of Six Figure Sales For Getaway At Cheltenham
Last month’s impressive win at Lingstown saw Simple Getaway (4g Getaway - Simple Sums, by Flemensfirth) sell for £180,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale on Friday.
Sports agent Gareth Maule signed the docket as Gwent Holdings and revealed that his exciting recruit would join the stable of Christian Williams, who said, “I'm looking forward to training such a lovely horse. Getaway has been lucky for us before with Five Star Getaway and Stringtoyourbow, who looks exciting.
On specific plans for Simple Getaway, Williams commented, “We might run him in a bumper in the new year but we'll get him home and see. They're good, patient owners so there won't be any rush.”
Simple Getaway emerged as smart prospect when winning a four-year-old maiden by eight lengths for Donnchadh Doyle. A €52,000 store buy, the son of Grange Stud sire Getaway was bred by Andrew Pierce.
Ross O’Sullivan and owner/breeder Mary McCann also enjoyed a terrific result at the sale, when debut winner Ah Whisht (5m Getaway - Listening, by King’s Theatre) was knocked down to Ballymaw Bloodstock and Dahlbury for £145,000.
Dahlbury is the operation of Simon Davies, who will send Ah Whisht into training with Tom Symonds, “She’s been bought as a long-term breeding prospect,” Davies explained. “We will race her, get her as good as we can and then retire her to stud.”
The mare’s perfect start last month was particularly impressive given that she beat the more experienced favourite, who had been runner-up on both her previous starts, with the pair finishing a distance clear of the third. Her profile enjoyed a further boost earlier on Friday afternoon, when half-brother Attaca (Mahler) made it two from two over hurdles at Cheltenham.
