Winning chase debut for Mahler’s Sutton Place
Sutton Place (7g Mahler-Glebe Beauty, by Good Thyne), a three-time Graded winner over hurdles, looks set to be every bit as good over fences after shining on his first start over the larger obstacles at Fairyhouse on New Year’s Day.
The son of Mahler was sent off as odds-on favourite in the beginners’ chase and, after hitting the front after the final fence, won with ease in J P McManus’s silks.
The seven-year-old is a 16/1 shot for the G1 JLT Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and trainer Gordon Elliott will speak to connections about the next step.
“He's a nice horse and we'll see where we go next, I’ll have a talk to the lads,” said Elliott. “He never does anything very impressive and just does what he has to do. They went a good honest gallop.”
Sutton Place was bred by James Leahy.
