Yeats Listed winner could head to G1
The Jedd O’Keeffe-trained Lord Yeats (4g Yeats-Bogside Theatre, by Fruits Of Love) made it two from two this season when winning the Listed Fred Archer Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
The Yeats four-year-old, home-bred by owners Geoff and Sandra Turnbull, showed real tenacity to hold off Second Step to win the 12-furlong contest. Races such as the G1 Irish St Leger and the American St Leger could now be on his agenda.
"We thought he was up to it and we thought the style of race would suit him. The main thing was to get some black type because the owners, Mr and Mrs Turnbull, still own his dam and this victory was obviously important in that respect,” said O’Keeffe.
"He has got entries in the American St Leger and Irish St Leger. When I made the entries we thought it seemed like we might be flying high but maybe they are more realistic now.”
