Yeats mare shines at Galway
The Willie Mullins-trained Poet Power (5m Yeats-Platinum Leader, by Supreme Leader) began her racing career in the best possible manner when triumphing on debut at the Galway Festival on Monday evening.
The Yeats mare, bred by Philip Hore junior, lined up in a typically competitive 16-runner Galway bumper but had soon proved too good for some decent opponents.
Patrick Mullins was in the saddle and they hit the front in the final furlong before going on to triumph by three and a half lengths.
“She mustn't be a bad filly,” said Willie Mullins. “She was a winner from a long way out. He just pulled her together and when she met the rising ground she climbed very well. The dam is a half-sister to Strong Platinum and it just shows you that pedigree will out.
“She works quite well but it's hard to think you're going to come to Galway and win a bumper first time out with one like that.
“I'd imagine she'll have to go for a winners’ bumpers at the middle or end of August. We'll let her recover from this first.”
