Coolmore Freshmen See In-Foal Mares Offered at Fasig-Tipton
Mares carrying first foals by Corniche, Golden Pal, and Jack Christopher are set to go through the ring at next week’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale in Lexington, Ky. during a two-session sale on Monday and Tuesday.
Champion 2-Year-Old Corniche has one in-foal mare on offer when Hip 139 sells as part of Paramount Sales’ consignment.
The Take Charge Indy 9-year-old is already the dam of a placed runner from two to race and has a yearling colt by Tiz The Law. The mare is a three-quarter sister to Grade II winner Adriano and half-sister to the Grade III-placed Gold d’Oro. Four of Mollyball’s half-sisters have produced stakes performers with Gold d’Oro the dam of Grade III winner Strike Power and three-quarter sister Star Torina the dam of stakes winner Lipstick City.
Mollyball’s second dam is the Grade I winner Golden Treat, a half-sister to Grade I Belmont Stakes winner Bet Twice. Golden Treat is also the dam of stakes winner Double Scoop, who produced Grade III winner Ice Cream Silence, with two other daughters producing either stakes winners or the dams of stakes winners.
Uncle Mo daughter Motown Girl is the only offering in-foal to three-time Grade I winner Jack Christopher at the sale.
Carrying to the Coolmore stallion on a March 21 cover, this is the second foal for the mare with her first being a juvenile colt by Practical Joke who sold last February for $145,000. Motown Girl is a full sister to Uncle Mo’s Grade III winner Name Changer among the five winners out of multiple stakes winner and Grade III-placed Cash’s Girl. That mare is one of two stakes performers out of a half-sister to champion Afleet Alex and Grade II winner Unforgettable Max in addition to stakes placed Stormin Maggy.
Jolie Hawk isn’t the only one to produce a stakes performer with three of her half-sisters doing the same thing. Motown Girl’s dam is a third generation stakes producer with eight of her dams also producing stakes winners or stakes producers.
Two-time Breeders’ Cup winner Golden Pal sees three go through the ring carrying his first foals.
The only mare selling during the first session is Hip 131, the Paramount Sales offered Maria’s Candy.
The dam of one winner and one placed runner from three to run, Maria’s Candy is also the dam of a Justify juvenile colt. A winner herself, Maria’s Candy is a half-sister to the dam of dual Grade I winner Belle Gallantey and stakes winner Mongolian Shopper with two other half-sisters producing stakes placers. Maria’s Candy is a granddaughter of champion Meadow Star, whose granddaughter Bubbler is the dam of champion Arrogate.
Offered 11 hips into the second session is the Warrendale Sales-offered Zia Zia Zia selling as Hip 312.
A three-time winner, the Dehere mare is the dam of Grade III-placed Freewheeler among her five winners from five to race. The mare is one of five winners from five to race out of her own dam Zia Philomena, whose foals include the stakes winning All of Her Twist. That mare joins Zia Zia Zia as stakes producers for their dam.
They are both ninth generation stakes producers with most of those mares producing at least one stakes winner. Zia Zia Zia’s produce record has plenty of time to improve as well with daughter World Traveler working regularly and 3-year-old daughter Dr. Ray D. winning her first start of the year on January 4.
The final to go through the ring in-foal to Golden Pal is Hip 380 offered by Straight Line Equine Sales.
Claravoyant won two starts on the track with 10 other top three finishes in 23 starts and has one foal to race with that one being the 4-year-old Bolt d’Oro filly Zenith Runner. She has had a foal every year and is carrying to Golden Pal on a May 3 cover.
Claravoyant is a half-sister to the stakes winner and Grade I-placed Light The City, who produced Grade I-placed Illumination. Her half-sister Native Enough is also the dam of last year’s Ellis Park Derby winner Tumbarumba, who won the Grade III Fred W. Hooper Stakes just over a week before the sale.
Their dam Light From Above is a half-sister to Grade III winner Strategic Partner, stakes winner Richie’s Party Girl, and Grade II-placed Victory Light. Richie’s Party Girl is also the dam of American Pharoah’s Group III winner Maven.
Both Fasig-Tipton sessions start at 10am with the first 300 hips selling on Monday and the rest of the horses selling on Tuesday.
