European Champion 2YO & Dual Guineas winner

Winner of 7 straight races at 2 and 3 years including 4 Group Ones

“there was a ruthless authority in the manner the Ryan Moore-ridden 6-4 favourite stormed up the rail to hold off Richard Hannon’s Barney Roy” Marcus Townend, Mail on Sunday, after the 2,000 Guineas

A Stallion’s Pedigree

  • By GALILEO, 8-time champion sire with 70 Gr.1 winners.
  • 11 sons of GALILEO have sired Gr.1 winners worldwide.
  • Galileo’s first sons at stud FRANKEL, NEW APPROACH, RIP VAN WINKLE, SIXTIES ICON, TEOFILO, RODERIC O’CONOR, HELIOSTATIC & FRANKEL have all sired Group winning 2yo’s from their first crop!

A Seriously Fast Damline

  • Out of MEOW – runner-up (beaten a neck) in the 5f. Queen Mary Stakes-Gr.2.
  • Second dam AIRWAVE won the 6f. Cheveley Park Stakes-Gr.1 and her half-sister JWALA won the 5f. Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes-Gr.1.
  • His own-sister CLEMMIE won the 6f. Cheveley Park Stakes-Gr.1 becoming Galileo’s only Group 1 winner over 6 furlongs.

“Churchill joins a growing list of Galileo‘s top-level winning sons and daughters to be out of a mare by the late Storm Cat, following in the footsteps of the likes of Gleneagles, Ballydoyle, Marvellous and Misty For Me.” James Thomas, Racing Post, 8th October 2016

After a debut defeat, Churchill embarked on a seven-race winning streak which established him as his generation’s champion two-year old and as a dual Guineas winner at three. His winning sequence featured four consecutive Gr.1 victories, including the National Stakes (by more than 4 lengths), the Dewhurst, the 2,000 Guineas (by a length from the future Gr.1 winners Barney Roy and Al Wukair) and the Irish 2,000 Guineas (by 2½ lengths from Gr.1 winner Thunder Snow). He also came out best of the three-year-olds when second in the Juddmonte International over an extended mile and a quarter. Churchill’s racing record showed that he had inherited a degree of stamina from his sire Galileo, balanced by plenty of speed from his very fast female line. This speed was also apparent when his year-younger sister Clemmie won the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes. Their dam, the Storm Cat mare Meow, was a fast and precocious daughter of the topclass sprinter Airwave (Cheveley Park Stakes). Airwave’s half sister Jwala won the Gr.1 Nunthorpe Stakes. Churchill also represents one of the world’s most potent nicks. From Galileo’s 54 foals out of daughters of Storm Cat, 12 have become black-type winners, with a sensational total of eight becoming Gr.1 winners – that’s virtually 15%. Four have become classic winners, which underlines the power of Churchill’s bloodlines.

Churchill enjoys the advantage of being free of the DANZIG blood which has been one of the other biggest contributors to Galileo’s success. Churchill will surely suit daughters of DANEHILL and other obvious options from this line include daughters of DANEHILL DANCER (who has excelled with Galileo), ROCK OF GIBRALTAR, HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, FASTNET ROCK, DANSILI, EXCEED AND EXCEL, KODIAC, MOZART, DYLAN THOMAS and DUKE OF MARMALADE. He should also shine with mares by CHOISIR, as Galileo sired the outstanding Winter from one. Mares by champion two-year-old MASTERCRAFTSMAN, another son of Danehill Dancer, could also suit.

The GREEN DESERT branch also has plenty to offer, as Churchill’s female line produced the Nunthorpe winner Jwala to OASIS DREAM. Galileo sired an Oaks winner from a GREEN DESERT mare and the dual Derby winner Australia from a daughter of CAPE CROSS. Mares by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT should reinforce Churchill’s 2yo ability.

The CHIEF’S CROWN branch of the DANZIG male line could supply some stamina. Teofilo, another son of Galileo, sired the Irish St Leger winner Voleuse de Coeurs and the Irish Derby winner Trading Leather from mares by GRAND LODGE and his son SINNDAR.

A growing number of Galileo’s stallion sons have important winners closely inbred to SADLER’S WELLS. Nathaniel’s brilliant daughter Enable is inbred 3×2; Teofilo’s Dewhurst winner Parish Hall is 3×3; and Frankel’s Derby fourth Eminent is also 3×3. Mares by MONTJEU, HIGH CHAPARRAL and REFUSE TO BEND are possibilities.

Galileo has also enjoyed excellent results with the NUREYEV line, including siring seven Group winners from only 29 foals out of PIVOTAL mares. Among them are the Gr.1 winners Rhododendron, Hydrangea and The United States. New Approach, another son of Galileo, sired the Oaks winner Talent from a PEINTRE CELEBRE mare. Galileo also has Gr.1 winners out of daughters of THEATRICAL and STRAVINSKY.

Breeders hoping to produce high-class middle-distance winners by Churchill should consider sending him mares from the MILL REEF line. Galileo has sired Gr.1 winners from three generations of this line, including ten Group winners from DARSHAAN mares. Galileo also has 23% stakes winners with Darshaan’s son MARK OF ESTEEM, including the Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach. DALAKHANI sired the dam of Galileo’s smart son U.S. Army Ranger.

Galileo has a Gr.1 winner from a BLUSHING GROOM mare, while RAINBOW QUEST sired the second dam of Frankel and Noble Mission. Galileo’s sons have already made their mark with this line, with New Approach’s Oaks winner Talent also having a second dam by RAINBOW QUEST.

Churchill’s speed could be reinforced by mares with AHONOORA blood. Galileo’s classic winners New Approach and Was respectively have a dam and a second dam by this top sprinter. Galileo also has three Group winners, including a classic winner, from mares by INDIAN RIDGE, and he sired the Gr.1 winner Curvy from an INCHINOR mare. Also, the Gr.1 winners Maybe, Rhododendron and Photo Call are among the seven Group winners with a second dam by INDIAN RIDGE. ACCLAMATION is out of an AHONOORA mare and his daughters have produced Group winners to two other sons of Galileo.

Other stallions with dams by Storm Cat have sired Gr.1 winners from daughters of SEEKING THE GOLD, CARSON CITY, LEMON DROP KID, UNBRIDLED and UNBRIDLED’S SONG. Galileo’s Derby winner Ruler Of The World and his top-class son Ulysses have dams by KINGMAMBO, his Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks is out of a MACHIAVELLIAN mare and his Irish St Leger winner Order of St George has a dam by GONE WEST. Other sons of Galileo have Group winners with dams by KINGMAMBO, MACHIAVELLIAN, WOODMAN, DUBAI DESTINATION, VETTORI, OBSERVATORY, ZAFONIC, THUNDER GULCH and DUBAWI.

The SHARPEN UP line has produced a classic winner to Galileo and Teofilo has three stakes winners out of DIESIS mares.

Galileo sired the King George and Eclipse winner Nathaniel, the Irish Oaks heroine Great Heavens and the Gr.1 winner Seville from daughters of SILVER HAWK and the Arc-winning Found from a mare by INTIKHAB. He also has Group winners from daughters of DYNAFORMER, KRIS S. LEAR FAN, RED RANSOM, DR FONG and SRI PEKAN.
