Classic Sire & Twice Champion Sire of 2yo’s in Europe

Top performers include Homecoming Queen (1,000 Guineas-Gr.1), Morandi (Criterium de Saint-Cloud-Gr.1), Designs On Rome (Hong Kong Classic Cup-Gr.1, Hong Kong Gold Cup-Gr.1 (x2)), Beauty Only (The Hong Kong Classic Mile-Gr.1, Chairman’s Trophy-Gr.2), Rich Tapestry (Santa Anita Sprint Championship-Gr.1, Al Shindagha Sprint-Gr.3), Mongolian Khan (NZ Derby-Gr.1, Australian Derby-Gr.1, Caulfield Cup-Gr.1), Banimpire (5 Group wins inc Ribblesdale S.-Gr.2), Mango Diva (Kilboy Estate S.-Gr.2), Rich Legacy (May Hill S.-Gr.2), Parvaneh (Badener Stutenpreis-Gr.2), Maureen (Princess Margaret S.-Gr.3), Ishvana (Jersey S.-Gr.3), Sandslash (Premio Carlo Chiesa-Gr.3), Leitir Mor (Round Tower S.-Gr.3), Gender Agenda (Robert J. Frankel S.-Gr.3), Emperor Max (Singapore’s Kranji Sprint-Gr.3, Saas Fee Stakes-Gr.3) etc.

The 2011 season saw Holy Roman Emperor take the title of champion sire of 2yo’s. Then 2012 saw him sire his first classic winner, plus another bunch of quality 2yo’s, and in 2013 he reinforced his standing as a leading sire, with a total of eight European Group winners. As success tends to lead to further success, Holy Roman Emperor is perfectly placed to enjoy substantial success in 2016 and 2017.

Like Rock of Gibraltar and Exceed And Excel, Holy Roman Emperor is inbred 3×3 to the great NORTHERN DANCER and 4x4x4 to the celebrated Natalma. This doesn’t rule out more NORTHERN DANCER blood, as Rock of Gibraltar and Exceed And Excel have enjoyed plenty of success with NORTHERN DANCER line mares.

Holy Roman Emperor is injecting speed and precocity into daughters of SADLER’S WELLS, siring four Group-placed 2yo’s and the high-class international sprinter Rich Tapestry. He also sired the Dewhurst runner-up Leitir Mor from a daughter of GALILEO and the very speedy Charles The Great from a BARATHEA mare.

Mares by sons of NUREYEV also suit. He has Gr.3 winners out of mares by FASLIYEV and PEINTRE CELEBRE, plus a Listed winner out of a daughter of DIABLENEYEV. His high-class daughter Banimpire has a second dam by NUREYEV.

He has the smart German colt Amarillo from a ROYAL ACADEMY mare, plus Hong Kong Gr.1 winner Beauty Only out of a mare by Royal Academy’s son Ali-Royal. He has also injected plenty of speed into Mehdi, a Group-placed colt out of a KAHYASI mare, so the NIJINSKY line is obviously successful.

Rock of Gibraltar has several stakes winners from DANZIG line mares, notably the Gr.1-winning sprinter Society Rock from a mare by KEY OF LUCK. His Gr.1 winners Mount Nelson and Samitar have second or third dams by GREEN DESERT. Holy Roman Emperor already has three stakes winners with second dams by GREEN DESERT and his fast son Louis The Pious is inbred 3×3 to DANZIG.

The fact that the very tough Dewhurst Stakes second Leitir Mor and the Gr.3 winner Mango Diva are inbred 2×3 to DANEHILL means that breeders can’t rule out the option of trying Holy Roman Emperor with mares by Danehill’s other very successful stallion sons.

Holy Roman Emperor owes his first classic winner to the SHARPEN UP line, siring the runaway 1,000 Guineas winner Homecoming Queen from a DIESIS mare. He is following the example of Rock of Gibraltar, who sired Group winners from daughters of SELKIRK (Gr.1 winner Mount Nelson), KRIS and SHARPEN UP.

In siring the Classic placed Ishvana and the Gr.1 winner Morandi, he became one of five sons of Danehill to have sired a Group winner from daughters of BERING, another being Dansili, sire of Harbinger.

Holy Roman Emperor is shaping up well with the MR PROSPECTOR line, which did well with DANEHILL. He has Group-winning 2yo’s out of mares by MACHIAVELLIAN and ZAFONIC and good winners with LYCIUS mares as their first or second dams.

As Danehill sired a Gr.1 winner from a ROBERTO mare, it is no surprise that Holy Roman Emperor has sired the high-class Banimpire from a KRIS S. mare. He also has speedy Listed winners from daughters of SRI PEKAN and DR FONG, a New Zealand Gr.1 winner with a RED RANSOM dam and a Gr.1-placed Australian colt from an INTIKHAB mare.

The NEVER BEND line is an obvious option, as Rock of Gibraltar, Dansili and Danehill Dancer sired Gr.1 winners from DARSHAAN mares. Holy Roman Emperor has a Listed winner out of a DAYLAMI mare and another out of a DARSHAAN mare.

The BLUSHING GROOM line can hardly fail as Rock of Gibraltar has an impressive five stakes winners out of RAINBOW QUEST mares, including the classic-winning Samitar, and also sired the demoted 1,000 Guineas winner Jacqueline Quest from a grand-daughter. Holy Roman Emperor already has Group performers with second dams by RAINBOW QUEST, GROOM DANCER and NASHWAN.

Holy Roman Emperor has stakes horses from mares by THATCHING and his son TIROL.

The Danzig male line has had some excellent results with mares from the AHONOORA line. Holy Roman Emperor has Group performers out of mares by INDIAN RIDGE and his son COMPTON PLACE.
