$300,000 Filly Among Top Offerings For Practical Joke

It was a big few minutes for Practical Joke on Wednesday at the Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearling Showcase when Hip 188 sold for $300,000 two hips before his $320,000 filly.

Signed for by Simon Callaghan for Sac Racing, Hip 188 from Eaton Sales has a strong pedigree for success. The filly out of stakes placed Lady Diplomat named Dontgetabovuraisin, bred by Fergus Galvin and Jayne Johnson, is a half-sister to stakes winners Banker’s Buy, City Dweller, and Glacken’s Gal. Glacken’s Gal is the dam of Grade II winner Live Lively and the granddam of champion Mitole.

A $150,000 short yearling at Keeneland’s January sale, the filly is a granddaughter of Mercedes Miss, who herself produced three stakes horses.

Dontgetabovuraisin was the second most expensive offering for her sire on Wednesday and one of five to sell for $100,000 or more within 135 hips of each other.

Among his other offerings was a colt consigned by Gainesway sell for $175,000 to Autrey Bloodstock. The bay bred by Bedouin Bloodstock and Timber Town Stables was a $115,000 Keeneland November purchase and is a half-brother to Listed winner Shore Runner among three stakes horses out of stakes winning Miss Mary Pat.

A half-sister to Fusaichi Pegasus's stakes winning and Grade II-placed Fusaichi Red from the family of three-time Grade I winner Copelan was Practical Joke's fourth most expensive of the day. The New York-bred purchased by SGV Thoroughbred for $165,000 was consigned by Sequel New York andwas bred by Sequel Stallions New York and NYP Bloodstock.

Charitable Link's daughter by the stallion also proved to be a hot commodity when selling for $110,000 to Robert Masiello during the New York-bred portion of the sale. The first foal out of a half-sister to dual Grade I winner Diversify was consigned by Hunter Valley Farm and bred by Jerry Bilinski.

A three-time Grade I winner himself, Practical Joke is having an exceptional sale with his seven yearlings bringing an average of $174,286 and a total of $1.22 million with a median of $165,000. There’s even more to come for the sire with 17 Practical Joke yearlings set to sell at Fasig-Tipton during the two day sale.
