400,000gns American Pharoah Colt Stars at Tattersalls

A 2-year-old American Pharoah colt became the Triple Crown winner’s latest sales ring success when he sold for 400,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale on Thursday as the second most expensive offering of the one-day sale.

Bred by Bridlewood Farm, the colt out of Harlan’s Honor was purchased by Simon Chappell from Star Bloodstock.

The colt is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Song River, the first foal out of stakes winning Harlan’s Honor. His dam and half-sister are just two of 10 stakes horses appearing on the colt’s page.

"I know the guys at Star Bloodstock and they've been telling me this colt is a good horse all year,” Chappell said. “At 400,000 guineas there was no way I was letting a horse like him slip through the net. He's by the sire of the moment in American Pharoah, he did the third-fastest breeze and has a massive stride, so I used the internet bidding system and bought the horse. He'll be going into training with Simon Crisford."

Last year’s Champion Freshman Sire, American Pharoah is coming off a top week of racing with two Grade III winners and two stakes placed horses in the last seven days, led by the undefeated Grade I Kentucky Derby hopeful Cafe Pharoah in Japan.
