$575,000 Filly Leads Way for Practical Joke at Keeneland
Practical Joke had two offerings in Book 1 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and he made them count with the duo led by a $575,000 filly.
Offered early in the sale as Hip 13, the filly consigned by Four Star Sales out of Advance Party was snapped up by Greg Tramontin. Hailing from the Alexander-Groves Thoroughbred breeding program, the filly had sold as a weanling for $115,000 before returning to the ring here.
Her dam is a full sister to the Grade I-winning Acoma and a half-sister to champion Festival of Light, Grade I winner Arch, and the dam of multiple champion Covfefe.
The following day, Practical Joke saw a colt out of Melodic purchased by China Horse Club and Qatar Racing for $300,000 from breeder Clarkland Farm.
By longtime Ashford stallion Tale of the Cat, Melodic is a stakes winner out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Christina’s Melody. That mare is a half-sister to the stakes winning Gratiaen and Cute Cognac, in addition to the dam of Group III winner and Group I-placed Oiseau de Feu. This is also the family of the Grade I-winning Rutherienne.
Practical Joke is having another stellar year with eight stakes winners and 16 stakes performers led by a Grade I winner and four Grade I performers. The stallion also leads all second crop sires by winners with 98 horses winning 130 races on the year.
