American Pharoah Colt Boosts Jockey Club Hopes
The Andre Fabre-trained Ocean Atlantique (3c American Pharoah – Tare Green, by Giant’s Causeway) is now disputing favouritism for the Prix de Jockey Club after an impressive success in the Listed Prix de Suresnes at Deauville.
An eight length winner of his maiden in October, the son of American Pharoah finished second in a Group 3 contest on return and stepped up to ten furlongs for the first time on Sunday. Sent off favourite under Pierre-Charles Boudot, the bay made all of the running and was asked to quicken from two furlongs out, from which he raced clear to win by five lengths.
Speaking after the race, Boudot said, “He's a colt with a good mind on him who is calm and takes his work well. He accelerated well in the straight and stayed all the way to the line. He's improving with racing.”
Owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, Ocean Atlantique was bought by Broadhurst Agency as a yearling for €1.1million. From the first crop of Triple Crown hero American Pharoah, he was bred by Indian Creek out of a half-sister to top miler Leroidesanimaux.
