American Pharoah Filly Tops Fasig-Tipton California Sale
Yearlings by Coolmore America stallions filled the top two spots on the leaderboard at the Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings and Horses of All Ages Sale on Tuesday, led by a $350,000 American Pharoah filly.
Purchased by Beckerle and Gray, the filly took the sale topping position away from a $300,000 Practical Joke filly late in the sale.
The California-bred was consigned by breeder Loveacres Ranch and is a half-sister to the winning Speightstown filly Piaf. EZ Indy herself was unraced but is out of the Grade II winning Banshee Winds, the dam of 10 winners. Among those 10 winners is champion Banshee Breeze, stakes winner Unbridled Wind and stakes placed Charm and Hard Facts.
One of her winning daughters also produced multiple Grade II winner and Grade I-placed American Anthem with Charm producing stakes winner Whirl and Unbridled Win the granddam of Grade II winner Tiz Windy and Grade II-placed Patch. In all, five of Banshee Winds’s daughters produced stakes winners or the dams of stakes winners.
American Pharoah continues to be the top sire of his generation with the stallion siring three Grade I winners, 10 Grade I performers, 10 graded stakes performers, and 22 blacktype winners.
This year, American Pharoah’s yearlings have been led by a $1.4 million filly at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale with his only foal to go through the ring so far in 2021 bringing $1,359,264 in Japan.
