American Pharoah’s Merneith Sells for $2 Million

American Pharoah’s multiple Grade II winning daughter Merneith was the sixth most expensive in-foal mare at this year’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale when Spendthrift Farm went to $2 million to acquire her from Mill Ridge Farm.

A $350,000 weanling at the sale in 2017 and $600,000 OBS March 2-Year-Old two years later, Merneith was a successful racemare when trained by American Pharoah’s trainer Bob Baffert for HRH Prince Sultan Bin Mishal Al Saud. During her career, she won five of her 12 starts with six other top three finishes, led by the Grade II Santa Monica Stakes twice.

A three-time stakes winner overall, Merneith was also third in the Grade I La Brea as a three-year-old. Retired after her second Santa Monica Stakes victory, she was bred to Horse of the Year Flightline for her first foal this year.

American Pharoah is the sire of nine Northern Hemisphere-foaled stakes winners in 2023 with 20 stakes performers. In the Southern Hemisphere, his son Riff Rocket won the Grade I Victoria Derby in Australia on Saturday.
