American Pharoah’s Sierra Nevada A Runaway Maiden Victress

Flaxman Stables homebred Sierra Nevada (3f American Pharoah x Visions of Clarity, by Sadler’s Wells) put herself firmly in the spotlight with a six length maiden victory at Gowran Park on Sunday.

Racing over 9 ½ furlongs, Sierra Nevada was sent to the lead by Shane Foley and never looked back. The filly was asked to pick up the pace just over a furlong out and eagerly responded to expand her margin. In the end, She was six lengths ahead of the runner up and nearly nine ahead of the third placed runner.

Trained by Jessica Harrington, the regally bred 3-year-old is a half-sister to dual Grade I winner War of Will, Irish champion and Group I winner Pathfork, and the stakes winning Tacticus.

“She’s a massive filly and imagine what she will be like when she gets a bit older,” Harrington told Irishracing.com. “She’s a half-sister to Pathfork and finally what she’s done at home she has brought to the track. She’s a lovely mover but has been a bit slow to learn. I put her in the Kilboy (Estate Stakes) this week so I’d say that will probably be her next appointment.”

Their stakes winning dam Visions of Clarity is also the granddam of three other stakes performers and is one of three stakes performers out of the stakes winning, Group I-placed Imperfect Circle. Imperfect Circle’s other performers include the European champion and five-time Grade I winner Spinning World and Group III-placed Rangoon Ruby.

Visions of Clarity was bred back to American Pharoah for 2022.

Sierra Nevada is the sixth winner from six runners by American Pharoah out of Sadler’s Wells mares with the group led by Group I winner Van Gogh. Sadler’s Wells granddaughters have produced an addition six stakes performers by the stallion, led by Group I winner Above the Curve and Group II winner and Group I-placed Pista.
