American Phenom Newest Winner For American Pharoah
American Phenom (3c American Pharoah x Schiaparelli, by Ghostzapper) started American Pharoah’s week right with a maiden victory at Gulfstream Park.
Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the Gulfstream turf under Edgard Zayas, the colt took the lead from the start and made easy work of the race with a length on the field at all times. Setting a relaxed pace, American Phenom didn’t have to put in much effort until the final furlong when he sped up just enough to hold off a late charger.
American Phenom won by 1½ lengths for his second top two finish in three career starts for owner Daniel Walters and trainer Rohan Crichton.
A $340,000 Keeneland September Yearling out of the Lane’s End consignment, American Phenom was bred by RanJan Racing out of the Grade II winning Schiaparelli.
The colt’s granddam is Grade III winner Cambiocorsa, the dam of four stakes winners with her Grade I-placed daughter Vionnet producing European Horse of the Year Roaring Lion.
A Triple Crown winning racehorse, American Pharoah is already a champion sire after winning Champion Freshman Sire honors last year. Sitting second by earnings among all North American and European second crop sires this year, American Pharoah leads by cumulative number of Grade I horses, graded stakes horses, and stakes horses among all second crop sires.
